Synthroid (levothyroxine sodium tablets, USP) Side Effects

Like all levothyroxine products, Synthroid can have side effects. for clinical practice for the evaluation and treatment of hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism.

Thyroid hormones, including SYNTHROID, should not be used either alone or in combination with other medicines for the treatment of obesity or weight loss. In patients with normal thyroid levels, doses of SYNTHROID within the typical range used for hormone replacement are not effective for weight loss. Larger doses may result in serious or even life-threatening effects, especially when used in combination with certain other drugs used to reduce appetite.

Learn about drug side effects and interactions for the drug Levoxyl to inactive ingredients have occurred in patients treated with thyroid hormone products.

Central nervous system: headache, hyperactivity, nervousness, anxiety, irritability, emotional lability, insomnia ;

Digitalis glycosides — The therapeutic effects of digitalis glycosides may be reduced by levothyroxine. Serum digitalis glycoside levels may be decreased when a hypothyroid patient becomes euthyroid, necessitating an increase in the dose of digitalis glycosides (see Table 2 ).

Musculoskeletal: tremors, muscle weakness;

Pseudotumor cerebri and slipped capital femoral epiphysis have been reported in children receiving levothyroxine therapy.

The list of drug-thyroidal axis interactions in Table 2 may not be comprehensive due to the introduction of new drugs that interact with the thyroidal axis or the discovery of previously unknown interactions.

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one. l your doctor if you miss two or more doses of thyroid in a row. weight loss.

Thyroid is used to treat the symptoms of hypothyroidism (a condition where the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone). Symptoms of hypothyroidism include lack of energy, depression, constipation, weight gain, hair loss, dry skin, dry coarse hair, muscle cramps, decreased concentration, aches and pains, swelling of the legs, and increased sensitivity to cold.
